Fospice Friend: Tera the German Shepherd

This is an incredible story of a terminally ill German Shepherd who went from rags to riches after five years of neglect.

Thanks to our friend Marshall Boprey of Boprey Photography for donating a private photo shoot to Tera from our Fospice program. Tera went on an early-summer stroll with her mom (Allison), dad (Matt), and sister Frankie, to show off her wheels and zest for life.

We aim to make each Fospice family feel special and appreciated, as they are doing for their Fospice dog. This is not an easy undertaking, knowing that your foster dog has a very limited time left to live. It’s not for everyone. Fospice takes a truly incredible person who is willing to care for a super-senior or terminally ill shelter dog. We send perks (Harry Barker bed, BarkBox, Maison de PawZ treats, My Animal Art watercolor, etc), and shower the human family and the dog with love.

For Tera, the more donations we receive for Fospice, the more we can send her financial support in her final months of life. Foster Dogs donated $300 to her rescue group BARRK, who saved her life and reached out to us to find a Fospice home. (We also donated $200 towards a big trip for Tera – more on that at bottom of this article!). Please DONATE!

Allison, who had contacted Foster Dogs two and a half years ago about our Fospice program, fostered Grey and Rex, among other shelter dogs in need – and now has dedicated her time to Tera, a very special girl. Due to Tera’s large-size and wheelchair requirements (no stairs), along with her negative prognosis, finding her a “forever foster” home was no small feat.

Allison and Matt are providing an invaluable service, and we know Tera is in amazing hands. She is sweet, gentle, and gets along beautifully with her dog and cat “siblings.”

Meet some of our other Fospice dogs who’ve received their own photoshoot through Foster Dogs Inc (through our outstanding network of professional photographers): MATRIXMAX, RICHIE, BEAU, TAZ, GINA, FLUFFY, DAISY – to name a few.

Tera’s story, one week at a time:

In May, we shared on Instagram, “This 5 year old beauty was saved from a shelter in NJ last week with her hind legs completely paralyzed. Turns out, she has a malignant tumor covering 80% of her spinal cord and has very limited time left. She’s seen a neurologist and two other doctors to get the best care and comfort. She’s our newest Fospice friend, and gets to live a spoiled life with our dear volunteer Allison. Allison, along with her husband and pup Frankie, started fostering because of this unique program; we can’t put into words how special this commitment is. Welcome to your new ‘forever foster’ home, Tera!”

7 weeks ago, meeting her new parents for the first time when they picked her up at the vet. Rescued by BARRK Rescue, and brought to a vet for a full evaluation. Tera had arrived covered in fleas and ticks, and felt fresh and clean for her new life ahead.

Get out the Kleenex! Tera is our newest #Fospice recipient, through @barrkli. This 5 year old beauty was saved from a shelter in NJ last week with her hind legs completely paralyzed. As if this story wasn’t miraculous enough, Allison and Matt are in the process of moving cross-country. While they began this Fospice experience unsure if they could keep Tera or fly with her to Seattle, they have fallen in love and arranged to drive so that the whole family could travel together, wheels and all (avoiding the flight so that Tera and Frankie can travel in style, rather than in a crate in cargo on a flight). Foster Dogs sponsored one luxurious night in a hotel, as a token of our appreciation for this major effort. It’s been grand, following Tera’s cross-country adventures with @sheisquitefrank.

Have a wonderful life, Miss Tera!
