4/1/20 UPDATE: While we await more listings from shelters, of dogs and cats in need of foster homes, please donate! Your donation of $5 or more makes sure that programs like our Foster Roster continue to help shelters avoid euthanasia, by sending animals into foster care.
[New York, NY] There is currently an overwhelming amount of people eager to foster. And that’s amazing. So rather than encouraging people to apply to every organization under the sun, we’d prefer to help you put your energy into finding a specific dog in need right NOW. The volume of foster homes right now in NYC is enormous; this is a unique situation. By no means does this mean: “we’ve solved this” when it comes to dog welfare, but we’re seeing communities and shelters step up in ways that’s never before been so critical in our modern times!
Right now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Foster Dogs’ priority is on getting dogs into homes around the area who need placement, rather than helping foster applicants find a “perfect fit.” Here’s what that means: being flexible on your parameters including: dog’s house-training skills / dog’s size / shedding and allergies / your current dog’s ideal best-bud / your ability to help with training / this could be a while - duration flexibility! Please do what you can while remaining SAFE, for you and for the animals! Remember, a dog is far happier in a little apartment than in a cage at the shelter, and can still be shared with the world!
